Billboard and Universal Team Up to Launch ChartStars NFT Collection

Billboard has partnered with music industry influencers Universal Music Group (UMG) to launch a collection of NFTs called “ChartStars”. The collection will reside on the Flow blockchain and will be curated in collaboration with the NFT Unblocked platform.

Each ChartStars NFT will be dedicated to celebrating an artist’s achievement on the Billboard charts

Each ChartStars NFT will be dedicated to celebrating an artist’s achievement on the Billboard charts and will include art and licensed video clips. They will also include gamified features that will display leaderboards to see who’s the top collector and exclusive perks such as gaining access to live Billboard events that can be won in various challenges.

The newly formed partnership has yet to set a specific launch date for the collection, however May 2022 is rumored to be the launch month. In order to expand the reach of the collection to UMG and Billboard’s non-crypto-savvy audience, the collection is also expected to facilitate credit card purchases.

Michael Nash, UMG’s EVP of Digital Strategy stated that: “By using its iconic charts for these compelling digital collectibles, Billboard is creating a revolutionary new way for artists and fans to celebrate unique accomplishments and cultural moments.”

The joint venture comes just as each respective company has had other successes in the NFT space, as Billboard recently teamed up with World of Women to launch a three-part NFT collection on magazine covers. UMG recently shook hands with NFT platform Snowcrash.
