Ethereum Updated the Merger Roadmap

Ethereum developers have updated information about the imminent transition of the blockchain to the Proof-of-Stake protocol. The mainnet upgrade could take place as early as September 10, according to the new roadmap.

The “merger” will consist of two stages. The first will be an update called Bellatrix on September 6th. If it is successful, the Paris update will be launched when the system reaches the required TTD indicator – Terminal Total Difficulty (cumulative network complexity up to the requested block).

Reaching the conditions required to launch the Paris update depends on the hash rate of the network and can occur within a 10-day period starting September 10th. Earlier, Ethereum founder Vitalik Buteri talked about plans to hold the Confluence in August, but the event was later rescheduled for the second half of September.

Ethereum Updated the Merger Roadmap

The Merge
Soon, the current Ethereum Mainnet will merge with the Beacon Chain proof-of-stake system.
This will mark the end of proof-of-work for Ethereum, and the full transition to proof-of-stake.
This sets the stage for future scaling upgrades including sharding.
The Merge will reduce Ethereum’s energy consumption by ~99.95%.
